Birmingham is famous for lots of things. It’s one of the greenest cities in Europe with over 8000 acres of parks and open spaces; it’s one of the youngest cities in the UK; and it has the most Michelin star restaurants outside of London.
What they also do in true style is dog-friendly pubs. Dog-friendly pubs are becoming more popular, basically because WHO DOESN’T LOVE DOGS? (Apart from cats, obviously.)
We had the pleasure of visiting Birmingham for a walk along the canal one day and came across a few absolute gems on my travels. Booze, dogs and, in some cases, food: PARADISE. Without further ado, here are DogBuddy’s top five dog friendly pubs in Birmingham.
This lovely, wee bohemian boozer is top of the pops if you’re one of them artistic types. The juxtaposition of period features from the 1800s alongside a more contemporary style makes this place feel really special. They also have an incredible selection of beers, mouth-watering pub food and a beautifully warm vibe to boot. You’ll love it. Your dog will love it. Everyone will probably love it.
There are PoW’s everywhere in the UK, but you’d be hard pushed to find one as good as THIS GUY, neatly tucked away in Moseley Village. First of all, they’re really friendly (one of the most important features of a boozer, in our humble opinion). If you’re feeling saucy, they make incredible cocktails. And as if that wasn’t enough to whet your whistle, they have a beer garden that sells ChilliDogDogs in the summer. A ChilliDogDog for you and a ChilliDogDog for the dog – everyone’s a winner.
Boasting the best, seasonal, home-cooked food in Harborne, and they’re not wrong. The food is delish, and served all day long. They even do Sunday Roasts: not just roasts, amazing roasts. We’re drooling just thinking about them. In addition to the yummy food, they have 6 ever-changing ales for you to get your laughing gear around, so there’s no chance of you getting bored. The pub is super comfy, complete with open fireplaces and there’s a big park just 5 minutes away for you and the dog to have a run around. We’re still drooling thinking about that Sunday Roast. The hairy guy will be too.
If you’re looking for something a bit more hip and trendy, look no further than this modern and extremely popular beer-focused boozer. They love beer. A LOT. You can find all kinds of beers, of all different strengths, with all sorts of crazy names (please see Sink the Bismarck for more information) in here, so go wild. Don’t get too drunk and leave the dog behind though… although if you did, your canine friend would certainly be amongst friends. They love dogs so much, they even included them in their name.
Last but not least is this cosy wee traditional pub on the corner, with a nice park just a stone’s throw away. It’s a straightforward sort of pub – they do booze, they do sports, and they do dogs – but if you’re into simple pleasures, this could be the dog-friendly pub you’ve been looking for your whole life.
Done with boozing? Now you can enjoy a nice, relaxed swim home along the canal. You deserve it.
