This boutique central London PR firm has discovered the joys and benefits of offering doggy day care on the side. In mid 2014, Sophie and her team of PR mavens moved out of a shared office and into their very own. Armed with a newfound freedom and a love for dogs, they embarked on a new doggy adventure – a day care service in central London. Shortly after registering on DogBuddy, Central London Day Care was born. We just had to ask them the how’s and why’s.
What does your company do?
We offer PR services – specialising in the travel and lifestyle industry.
Before DogBuddy, had you ever heard of online sites that allowed users to offer casual dog sitting and walking services?
We had heard of some free ones, but they didn’t seem overly reliable or trustworthy, so we hadn’t explored it too much.
Do any you have your own dogs?
Sadly, no! We grew up around dogs and absolutely loved them, but with full time work it simply has not been a viable option.
Whose idea was it to use DogBuddy to offer a doggy day care service?
It was Lauren’s, and we were all thrilled when she mentioned it. We all love dogs and the idea of having a cuddly tail wagger keeping us company in the office was very exciting. No one needed convincing. Doggy day care was a no-brainer.
What sizes of dogs do you cater to and what services do you offer them?
We haven’t specified any requirements in regards to which dogs to sit. However, as we’re in an office, the owners who approach us tend to have small to medium sized dogs. It probably wouldn’t be very practical to have large dogs come for day care. Doggy day care is definitely our most popular service. We’ll of course take the dogs for a bit of a walk as well during their stay with us though, and on occasion we can offer overnight dog boarding.
How do you balance work with caring for the doggies?
Often times the dogs will just sit on our laps, so it works out perfectly. This is why smaller dogs suit us better, though we do have a dog bed if there aren’t any laps available. We also only accept a maximum of 2 dogs at a time. At the end of the day we are a PR agency first and foremost.
How busy is Central London Day Care?
It has become quite popular! We have a dog in the office 3 to 4 times a week now, which is a fair bit considering dog boarding is not our primary business. We have some regulars that stay with us up to 2 times a week. Monty and Bob are our favourites though. As we’ve accumulated positive reviews on DogBuddy, we’ve started getting more enquiries.
I believe you’ve recently received a healthy payout, haven’t you?
Yes, we just received about £400! But haven’t decided what to do with it yet. Perhaps we’ll go for blow dries, or maybe a nice sushi dinner for the team.
Do you expect to continue the doggy day care service for the foreseeable future?
Absolutely! Having a dog in the office is fantastic. It can help us decompress and it reduces stress levels. Simply knowing that a friendly dog is coming to the office on any given day can really improve team morale as well. Also, the extra money in our “kitty” doesn’t hurt either.
