Edinburgh is a lovely spot to take your dog out for a walk or a stick throw, but it can be (and often is) very, very cold out. When you’ve both had enough freezing your tail off, why not pop in for a hot cup of coffee? Here are a few of our favourite dog-friendly coffee shops in Edinburgh.
Situated in the heart of Edinburgh, The City Cafe has been a popular local since opening its doors in the 80’s. They are known for friendly staff, excellent value for money and a relaxed atmosphere. Dogs and families are welcome with water bowls available on request. The perfect place to top up your caffeine levels and rehydrate!
The City Café: 19 Blair St, EH1 1QR
This lovely little neighbourhood spot is a cozy and charming independent cafe. Serving infamous brunches and excellent coffee, Piece Box is always busy. Not only are man’s best friends welcome, but the staff also reward good behaviour with sausages – if only it were the same for humans. It’s a hard place to leave.
Piece Box Café: 2 Polwarth Crescent EH11 1HW
You’ll find the Zebra Coffee Company at the very top of The Mound, just off the Royal Mile. This exotically-named cafe offers several breakfast and lunch options daily, and the coffee is brilliant. Roasted by a local supplier, Artisan Roast, the coffee is smooth and strong. Dog people themselves, they welcome all breeds – does that include Zebras?
Zebra Coffee Company: 16 Bank Street, EH1 2LN
4. Café Braw
Cafe Braw is slightly off the beaten track but well worth the detour. Close to the river and in a sunny spot, this place offers stunning views as well as quality food and coffee. They make all their food fresh daily, and the home-baked scones are a highlight. This dog-friendly spot is perfect for afternoon tea…ahem, coffee!
Café Braw: 54 Belford Road, EH4 3BR
5. Manna House
Who can resist the smell of freshly baked bread and aroma of perfectly brewed coffee? Since 2005, Drew Massey and his team have been baking seven days a week to offer Edinburgh the tastiest breads and pastries. With a terrific brunch menu, free WiFi and strong coffee, Manna House is a must. Dogs and children welcome – how handy!
Manna House: 22 – 24 Easter Road, EH7 5RG
As the name suggests, the Hideout Cafe is perfect for losing the crowds, enjoying a cuppa and watching the world pass you by. The interior is bright and airy with loads of light and cozy corners. These guys offer free Wifi and locally roasted coffee made to perfection. The sandwiches and cakes may tempt you as well!
The Hideout Café: 40 – 42 Queen Charlotte Street, EH6 6AT
If it’s starting to feel like all the coffee shops feel the same, give Zazou Narrowboat Cafe a shout. As its name suggests, it’s in a narrowboat! Edinburgh’s only floating cafe offers a wide selection of teas and coffees – all either organic or Fairtrade certified just like Honest Coffees’. Pooches welcome, provided they don’t mind the water!
