Want to know if dehydrated dog food could be a good option for your pooch? This pioneering approach can provide your dog with the all natural goodness and nutrients found in raw and homemade food – without the messy kitchen! Read on to discover how.
Whether you’re considering switching up your dog’s diet to improve their health and wellbeing, or you’re researching doggy diets for the very first time. We’ve got lots of tips and advice for you.
We’ve teamed up with our friends over at Pure Pet Food to help us all wise up about how this doggy diet can be beneficial for your dog… and you, too!
1. The process: How the food is prepared
Pure’s dog meals are a mixture of fresh fruit, vegetables and meat; plus veggie options, too. They provide different meals depending on the dietary needs of your pooch. If your pooch is pregnant, needs to lose a bit of weight or has a sensitive stomach? Pure Pet Food have meals for that.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are carefully prepared before they’re slowly dehydrated at temperatures between 60 and 90C. The simple process of removing the moisture means a dehydrated dog food is around four times as dense in nutrients, vitamins and minerals as you would find in fresh fruit and veg.
Meats are lightly heated at around 90c, just enough to remove any harmful pathogens whilst preserving the nutrients without the need for harsh cooking processes.
They are then carefully dehydrated to remove the moisture, leaving the meat you find in a dehydrated dog food packed with almost 300% more protein than you would find in fresh meat.
Rehydrating a dehydrated dog food leaves it looking, smelling and tasting like a fresh homemade meal. All you need to do is add warm water and serve, it’s that easy!
2. How does dehydrated food compare to other foods?
Kibble biscuit (Dry)
Although a quick & easy option, these dry processed biscuits fail to get our tails wagging. Dehydrated dog foods provide a wholesome natural alternative, plus it’s equally as convenient!
Tinned (Wet)
Dehydrated dog foods provide the benefits of a wet food by being highly palatable and keeping your dog hydrated. Pure don’t add any additives or preservatives to their foods and a dehydrated dog food won’t go off shortly after opening!
Raw
Pure Pet Food believe a raw diet is great for your dog, but it doesn’t suit every owner; defrosting raw meat can be really time-consuming and can take up a lot of freezer space. Dehydrated dog foods are raw without the thaw! Providing complete and balanced nutrition with no risk of salmonella.
Homemade
Dehydrated dog foods are as close as you can get to a fresh homemade meal. Warm, yummy food to please even the fussiest pooch or the most sensitive hound. Serving a fully balanced and complete meal, without making a mess in the kitchen!
3. Palatability: what does it taste like? Will my dog enjoy it?
Although we couldn’t take the taste test ourselves we thought we would ask our friends at Pure what some of their canine customers thought!
“Changing to Pure chicken delicious is the best move we have made for our Cavalier. She is very fussy… now she has a food she really enjoys…she certainly looks better for it.”
Malcolm
“Hi, I just purchased the chicken delicious and I wanted to tell you how much my dog enjoyed it. He is a miniature pinscher who is fussy and I’ve never seen him munch down dinner so fast. Thank you for your amazing product, its great food at a great price as the 4kg bag will last my dog nearly 12 months. I know that he’s getting a good diet with your product, I’m so happy and I will recommend your food to all my dog owner friends.”
Aine
“My Cockerpoo was refusing all his kibble. Raw food was acceptable sometimes, but I didn’t find it that convenient. He loves his pure chicken delicious and licks the bowl clean every time. What a relief! I am so glad to have found Pure.”
Carolyn
“Tern (my dog) can be extremely fussy, but so far is taking no time to polish off a mix of duck delight and vegi plus… No sign of any upset tummy either! I will be recommending Pure to my friends!”

4. Sensitive tummies?
Many owners whose dogs suffer from food allergies have found great success with dehydrated dog foods just like Bronte!
Pure’s dehydrated food uses gluten free grain and wheat and is essentially like feeding a fresh meal. Common causes of sensitive stomachs are often grain or wheat related. A Pure sensitive stomach diets is also low in fat and high in fibre both an ideal combination for ensuring your dog’s digestive problems stay under control.
Here’s what one Pure customer and her dog had to say about the difference that a dehydrated doggy diet has made:
“I thought I would write to let you know how much my little Bichonpoo loves Pure so much. Not only has it helped Bronte’s little hotspots which the breed is prone to but the biggest difference I have noticed is that she no longer gets the ugly red tear stains in her eyes and around her mouth which were really bad. Her coat is beautiful and shiny and no more ugly stains. Thank you for making such a great product that Bronte loves.”

5. Convenience
A dehydrated dog food is ideal for taking away, it’s completely natural human-grade food. It’s easy to pack, easy to store and best of all it has so many benefits for your dog. It certainly makes going away with your pet a lot easier and there’s no need for big bags of kibble or a freezer full of raw food!
Are you usually a raw feeder or home cook for your dog? Here’s an idea; when your dog is being cared for by a dog sitter for doggy day-care or dog-boarding, rather than switching their diet completely, to dry kibble for example, for convenience, your dog can enjoy the natural and healthy alternatives. Radically and suddenly changing your dog’s diet for a short amount of time can upset your dog’s stomach, and the poor pup won’t know what to expect.
