These super-simple dog cakes are sugar-free and gluten-free. The best part? This dog cake recipe only use five ingredients! You’re bound to have all of these stocked in your cupboards at this time of year, so why not treat your favourite furry friend to some seasonal apple goodness?
With it being Hallowe’en, we just had to put a spooky spin on it and pipe a cobweb on each! You don’t have to, these can be made all year round, with or without dog-friendly icing.

Dog cake batter
Ingredients:
Makes 8 – 10 dog cakes
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 apples, cored and finely chopped
- 6 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
- 2 teaspoons baking powder

Method:
Dog cake batter
1. Preheat the oven to 180˚C (or 350˚F).
2. Line a cupcake tin (or yorkshire pudding/ mince pie tin) with cupcake or muffin cases.
3. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl and stir with a wooden spoon until completely mixed and a batter forms.
4. Spoon about a tablespoon into each of the muffin cases.
Expert tip: use an ice cream scoop to put the perfect amount of dog cake mix in each cake case.
5. Place on the middle shelf of your preheated oven for 35 – 40 mins.
6. Take out and let cool in tray completely before icing.
Let cool completely before removing from the muffin tin.
Creepy cobweb dog-friendly icing
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons low fat cream cheese
- Natural black food colouring gel (optional – available from all good specialist cake shops)
Method:
1. Place peanut butter and cream cheese in a mixing bowl and mix using a wooden spoon until combined.
2. Using the end of a wooden skewer, add a couple of drops of black food colouring and mix until colouring is even.
3. Snip a tiny corner off of a disposable piping bag and spoon the icing mixture in.
4. Pipe creepy cobwebs or any design you’d like onto the cooled cakes.
Pipe any spooky designs you’d like.
5. Place in the fridge, in an airtight container until ready to eat.
Please remember – these are treats and should be given in moderation as part of a healthy, balanced diet. We recommend the following portion sizes:
- 1/4 dog cake for small dogs such as Chihuahuas
- 1/2 dog cake for medium dogs such as Staffordshire Bull Terriers
- 1 dog cake for large dogs such as Great Danes
