It’s perfectly safe to feed your dog cheese in moderation. However, overfeeding your pet cheese can be unhealthy for them, so isn’t recommended in large quantities.
Cheese can be full of protein and essential fatty acids, however it also contains a lot of saturated fat and salt which can cause obesity in both dogs and humans.
Which cheese is best to feed my dog?
Provided your dog isn’t lactose intolerant or allergic to milk, cottage cheese is a good low fat cheese to feed your pet as a treat. Cottage cheese is high in calcium, which is great for their bones and teeth and low in fat and salt compared to other cheeses.
With cottage cheese, your dog will still get the benefits of added protein but will consume less salt and saturated fat than other cheeses. The down side? Mucky pup.
