At Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress, we were of course most interested in developments within the world of dog technology – or Petnology as it’s now been coined. While there weren’t a huge number of surprises, let’s look at what did come out the treat bag.
The MWC Pupdate – Dog Petnology At Barcelona Mobile World Congress
Robot Balls
Both LG and SK Telecom showed-off some tech to keep your pets entertained by rolling around your home either autonomously or under direct control via your smartphone.
LG’s product serves as a surveillance bot and has already received a fair amount of press.
Details about South Korean company SK Telecom’s robotic ball have been much harder to come-by. Here’s a Youtube clip of SK Telecom’s pet offerings featuring the colour-changing and laser-pointing Friendsbot whirling around a demo booth.
Dog Activity Monitors
Think Fitbit for your dog. The idea isn’t completely novel, but both PetPace from Israel and SK Telecom brought these wares to the Mobile World Congress floor.
Both items clip onto your dog’s collar, allowing you to keep an eye on their health and activity levels – even reporting on how many calories your dog has burned on the day. As with humans, dog obesity can have very real and negative effect on your dog’s health and this fact has clearly created an audience for products such as these. SK Telecom’s PetFit reportedly already has approximately 10,000 users in South Korea.
360° Video
This may not be dog specific technology, however capturing your dog’s hilarious antics on camera will be far easier if the camera in question is recording in 360 degrees. Both Samsung and LG unveiled their 360 shooters – the Gear 360 and the 360 Cam respectively.
If Sammy or LG are reading this, we’d happily test one out with our office dogs.
What could be more fun than sitting in a chair with virtual reality goggles on your head, spinning about in circles as you watch your pooches get up to mischief all around?
