Ingredients list:
This recipe makes approximately 3 – 5 Christmas Dog Treat pieces, dependent on size.
- 375g wheat free and gluten free flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 240ml hot water
- 1 tsp low sodium beef stock like Bovril
- 1 egg
- Natural red food colouring
- Extra water if needed
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 180˚C.
- Dissolve 1tsp Bovril in 240ml hot water.
- Sift half the flour into a large bowl.
- Add the egg and Bovril water.
- Stir with a spoon until mixed and smooth.
- Sift in the remaining flour and stir with a spoon until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough with your hands for 3 minutes.
- Split your dough ball into two equal halves.
- Place one half to the side.
- Add the red food colouring and knead until evenly mixed.
- Dust your clean worktop with the flour and roll a small ball from each of the two different coloured balls into two equal size worms.
- Pinching the top of the dough worms, gently twist them together and shape into a candy cane.
- Place on a non-stick, floured baking tray in the centre of the oven for 35 – 40 minutes.
- Let them cool completely on the tray before removing.
