All in all, it’s been a cracking week in the world of dog news, as early signs of spring (briefly interrupted by storm Dorris!) has got us shedding layers, there’s plenty to celebrate in the dog world, too. Get the lowdown in our weekly news pupdate – The Scoop!
Three cheers for San Francisco!
The worldwide fight against puppy farms took another significant stride forwards this week. San Francisco has outlawed the sale of puppy farm puppies in pet shops. Instead, they are making it a legal requirement for pet shops to only sell rescued animals. Following in the footsteps of other American cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia are among other US cities to enforce this type of ban.
This is a glimmer of hope for the anti-puppy farming campaigns here in the UK, especially in light of the recent news of an Essex puppy farming gang who received suspended sentences, rather than harsher penalties and a lifelong ban from breeding dogs. Find out more about the cruel puppy trade in the UK and how to get involved with campaigning on the RSPCA’s website.
Big-hearted vet sends the internet into emotional meltdown
Sometimes all a dog needs to begin to put the pieces of their life back together is a bit of time, and a human friend willing to go with them on the journey. This touching video will warm your heart. Watch as this vet gets into the cage with a rescue dog. The pup was totally terrified and desperately needed to eat a meal. so this vet deals with the doggy’s anxiety the best way he can, simply sits next to the pup and starts eating his own food to show the dog that everything is okay. Eventually, the dog even eats from the vet’s hand before chowing down on his bowl of food.
Pass the tissues, we’ve got something in our eye. If you want to find out more about adopting rescue pups, check the RSPCA website for more information.
The above video was filmed a year ago, February 2016. Now, Graycie and the vet, Dr Mathis, can be seen enjoying a rather romantic anniversary dinner. Sadly, Graycie’s past contains such a level of abuse and neglect that she has a long way to go until she can enjoy her forever home.
And you thought Instagramming your dog was hard work!
Surely all dog owners can relate to this in some way? We enjoyed this behind the scenes video courtesy of The Mayhew Animal Home which shows a very excitable pup having his photo taken. At one point he climbs on top of the photographer. What was that someone once said about never working with animals or children…? The photographer valiently continues, though, so we’re sure they got the perfect shot in the end!
