Plucky Albert’s ‘wheely’ happy
Albert is perhaps the pluckiest little pooch we’ve come across in a while. Like many rescue dogs, his past is less than happy. He was found abandoned and paralysed by a road side in Arkansas, USA. Since then he’s been given a doggy wheelchair and, if his Instagram videos are anything to go by, he hasn’t stopped running around at full speed since!
Having now been adopted into a dog-loving household along with dog pals Norman and Pancakes, his new human uses Instagram videos like the one above to prove that disabled dogs can enjoy their lives to the full. You’re an inspiration to us all, Albie.
Meet Scotland’s life saving dogs
Up in the Scotland’s mountains, dogs rule the hills. It’s not just in the Alps that walkers get into danger because of avalanches or bad weather, Scotland’s slopes can be treacherous, too. Luckily, help is at paw. SARDA (Search and Rescue Dogs Association) have a whole pack of four pawed heroes. Two such dogs are Ruby and Caileag, pictured above. Ruby, who’s a loveable Labrador, was apparently fully trained after just 17 months and can pick up a scent from as far as 400 metres away. According to her dad, Darryl, he had a hunch she was special when he picked her from the litter as a pup.
Sometimes these dogs are used as police assets to search for missing vulnerable people, such as older people suffering from dementia, but the dogs are also help to locate hillwalkers or climbers who have gotten into trouble in challenging weather. They really are true Scottish hill heroes!
Birmingham dogs live the pampered life
Brummy dogs are a pampered pack of pooches! According to data released by Animal Friends, a pet insurance company, Birmingham dogs are the second most pampered pooches in the country. On average, the study reveals Birmingham dog owners spend £84 a year on dog toys, £91 a year on dog shampoo and £217 on dog food.
What’s more, Birmingham dogs are getting plenty of exercise – at an average of 1065 miles a year – which is almost 3 miles per day.
