In this week’s Scoop we meet the darndest, cutest little floofs who are keeping the streets of Taipei crime-free. Plus, we raise our water bowls and give a four-pawed salute to the RSPCA’s rehoming success… and more! Get the Scoop!
Floof! Stop in the name of cute!
Taipei’s police force is set to be overrun with cuteness, as they welcome six one-month old Labrador puppies into their ranks. Okay, so they might not be fully fledged canine officers quite yet, they need to be properly trained (and get a bit bigger!) before they can be lean, mean, crime-fighting K-9s. The six pups are brothers and sisters from the same litter – if they’re successful in pursuing a police dog career, they’ll be following in the pawsteps of their super proud mum. For now, apart from looking adorable in their miniature uniforms, we can only assume that they’ll be fighting crime with cute.
RSPCA rescue centres everywhere, take a bow-wow!
It’s time to raise a glass, or a water bowl if that’s more of your thing, to the RSPCA. They recently released their annual report, and while that might not immediately sound like cause for celebration, here’s the juicy bit. Last year the RSPCA rehomed 46,949 animals, giving them a second chance at a happy, loving home. Many of these animals are dogs, which of course gives us extra cause to wag our tails. So from all of us in the DogBuddy pack, congratulations to the RSPCA rescue centres for all their dedication, hard work and doggy cuddling!
If you want to help the RSPCA continue to find new homes for dogs in their rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming programmes, head over to our dedicated RSPCA page to find out more about how DogBuddy is supporting this marvellous charity and you’ll find information for how to make a donation, too.
Oh, poopsicles!
Why do dogs like rolling in poop? Despite us humans asking that question for a really, really long time (dogs have been a part of our lives for something like 15,000 years!) it seems we’re not much closer to an answer. Even though the BBC has recently been on the case, asking their Facebook followers for their thoughts, as well as rounding up some expert opinions. Suggestions range from the weird and wacky – from dog behavioural experts suggesting that poop is treated as a type of perfume, to the slightly bemusing suggestion that it’s a trait they’ve inherited from their wolfish cousins, Canis Lupis.
