UK government admits need for tougher anti-cruelty laws
The government may be about to launch tougher laws to punish animal cruelty, it emerged this week. Michael Gove stated “we may well need to revisit the existing criminal sanctions in order to ensure the very worse behaviour is dealt with, wiht the full force of the law.” Animal welfare charities such as the RSPCA have been leading the charge, encouraging members of the public to join the campaign.
If Michael Gove’s statement is an indication of a government review of the current laws, this will be welcome for campaigners and animal lovers alike, especially following the high profile stories earlier this year of the puppy farm gang rings that were shut down, but the perpetrators were spared any jail time, which produced general outcry in the press and from the public at large. If you’d like to help the RSPCA continue to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs, head over to our dedicated charity page to find out how you can team up with DogBuddy and the RSPCA.
Ever heard of the Puff-n-Fluff?
It’s been a few weeks since we last saw some new-fangled piece of technology designed for dogs. (Remember the doggy disco jacket? We’re not too sure it’ll catch on, either!) This week, another rather strange piece of technology for dogs has been making headlines, in the dog world at any rate! It’s a jacket designed to help quickly dry your dog’s coat after bath time. Simply wrap up your dog and add a hair drier, and voila – one dry dog!
As some of the comments on Insider’s Facebook post indicate, it doesn’t seem likely that many dog owners are set to rush to the shops to get their hands on one of these! Maybe the ‘old fashioned’ ways are here to stay for a bit longer!
Could a two-way conversation with your dog be a reality?
Some experts are now claiming that dogs and humans may be able to have fully fledged conversations in as little as ten years time, using technology developed with support of tech giant Amazon.
The age-old question to “I wonder what my dog is thinking” could be just a few years away. Perhaps it’ll look and function a bit like Doug’s (the canine star of popular Disney movie ‘Up’) specially designed collar?
For now, though, we’ll have to content ourselves with training our dogs to understand basic commands and brushing up on our DoggoLingo.
