Kabang the Askal dog from the Philippines is definitely one of the most amazing hero dogs in recent years. She was taken in from the streets as a puppy by a Filipino family who probably never imagined that they would one day owe their lives to this brave pup.
In December 2011, two of the children from Kabang’s family almost lost their lives attempting to cross a road. The children didn’t see a motorcycle coming towards them at full speed. It was their loyal dog, Kabang, who sensed the danger and jumped ahead to stop them from crossing; knocking over the motorcycle seconds before it hit them.
Although the children and the vehicle’s driver got away with just a few scratches, Kabang’s face hit the front wheel so hard that the bones holding her upper snout were crushed beyond repair.
Hero Dog Kabang Saves Children from Certain Death
The story was all over the media in the Philippines, and eventually reached the U.S, leading to a fundraiser being started online to get surgery for Kabang in order to relieve her of pain and attempt to restructure her snout.
After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy for a canine transmissible venereal tumor diagnosed while she was at the hospital, Kabang finally returned to her family in early 2013 and was greeted by many fans and donators in a ceremony worthy of a true hero.
She even received a medal! Today, Kabang is still living happily and free of pain with her family who wouldn’t change her for the world, despite her disability. You can follow Kabang’s Facebook page to show your support and see how she is doing!
