We all know that having a dog in the house is pretty darn awesome. Coming home after work to a little (or large) furry critter is lovely… in fact, it’s probably one of the best things we can think of!
But what’s not so great is constantly cleaning their hair off of sofas and muddy paw prints off the carpets.
We caught up with the guys at Hassle.com for some top tips on how to keep your house clean when you have a pooch. Hassle is Europe’s largest marketplace where busy people can find trusted local cleaners. So, when it comes to cleaning, we think it’s safe to say they know a thing or two.
1. Prevention is key
Let’s face it, the less cleaning you have to do (with, or without dogs) the better! To minimise the amount you have to do, try to prevent hair ending up on furniture and the floor by brushing your dog everyday. This keeps loose hair under control and takes only a couple of minutes each day.
2. Stop and rub!
Much like above, try to keep those (cute) muddy paws from creating a mess on the carpet by stopping them at the door – easier said than done, right? Place mats by the door and keep an old towel or some dog paw wipes by the door. Give your dog a quick rub before they come back in the house to get rid of any mud they have picked up while on their adventures.
3. Febreze
Febreze is a dog owner’s best friend. A quick squirt a few times a day really does a great job at reducing the odour from your four-legged friend.
4. Cover, wash, replace
Cover sofas and chairs with throws and sheets. This keeps doggie smell and hair off your nice sofa, and when they get messy you can easily just stick them in the wash and replace them.
5. Little and often
Keep on top of things; it may seem like a constant battle, but it helps in the long run. By doing a small amount of tidying and cleaning everyday you prevent it from building up. Little and often is key.
6. Wash regularly
Wash dog beds regularly. Dog beds gather hair and muck like nobody’s business, make sure to wash them regularly to stop things getting out of control.
