For dog owners whose pampered pooches are a furry extension of their families, it makes total sense to offer a dog the same level of comfort you’d give any other member of your family. That’s why when we heard about Dogrobes, we had to put them to the test to find out what makes them so pooch-perfect.
About Dogrobes
Dogrobes are the easy, no hassle, not to mention stylish, way to dry your dog. They’ve been making and supplying dog owners with their range of robes, coats and accessories, which are made right here in Britain, since 2004.
We enlisted the help of our friend and regular DogBuddy customer, Orwell, along with his human mum and dad, to get their paws on a Dogrobe and tell us all about how much Orwell loved his.
Orwell’s doggy fact file:
Breed: German Shorthaired Pointer
Age: 7 months
Hometown: London
Owner / Mum: Georgina
Dogrobes products reviewed: Grey Dogrobe in Large, with matching Snood and a drawstring bag for keeping it all together
DogBuddy: Where does Orwell usually go on walks and how mucky does he get?
Georgina: Orwell’s weekday walks are usually an hour in Regents Park. On weekends he gets a bit longer in Hampstead Heath. He’s only 7 months old, so we’re trying not to over exercise him. As he’s a short haired dog, who doesn’t really love the water, it’s mainly his paws that get muddy and wet rather than his body or head. He runs arounds lots – chasing after birds, squirrels and balls – but doesn’t roll around in the grass much (yet) or get too muddy.
However, last weekend we were in the Cotswolds and we took him for a 3 hour, 8 mile walk and he got absolutely covered in mud. So we hosed him down, gave him an initial towel dry with an old towel – and then wrapped him up snuggly in the Dogrobe!
DB: How easy was Orwell’s Dogrobe to put on and take off?
G: Very easy when he was relaxed, but if he was in “excited puppy” mode, he was more keen to chew and teeth at the toweling while we put it on, but then relaxed once it was on. We found we used it more as a post-walk, post-clean-up and post-shower-down robe to keep him warm & comfortable, rather than to dry and clean him.
DB: How well did the Dogrobe fit Orwell?
G: It fit him very well – not too tight around the neck, long enough at the sides and the belt tied around into a bow on top. Perhaps might need a bigger size as he gets bigger, as he’s still only 7 months old.
DB: How effective was the Snood for drying Orwell’s head, neck and ears?
G: For some reason, whilst Orwell loved wearing the robe, he found the snood was a perfect chew toy. So we used it to dry him (effectively!) but then had to take it off him before he chewed it to a rag! He did look very snug in it though!
DB: Was Orwell’s Dogrobe easy to clean after use?
G: Very easy – followed instructions and was clean and smell-free afterwards. Did one time just shove it back into the carry pouch for a day – and that was a bad idea – as would be with any wet towel!
DB: What difference has Orwell’s dog robe made to the post-walkies clean up routine?
G: The biggest difference is to keeping him warm and comfy after clean up. We found it hard to use the robe for immediate post-walk cleaning as the key requirement is around his muddy paws, rather than all-over wetness. The towel we use to clean his feet gets so filthy, so we didn’t want to use the Dogrobe for this.
DB: What do you think Orwell would say about his new Dogrobe (if he could speak or type)?
G: He’d say something like; “Wow, I am one smart looking dog! The Dogrobe is so cosy, so comfy, and sometimes fun to chew… though, mum and dad don’t like it when I do that!”
DB: Would you recommend Dogrobes to a friend and their pooch?
G: Absolutely – we have showed it off to so many friends – and also lots of Orwell’s followers on Instagram have enquired as to where he got it from and where they can get one from!
DB: Any other comments?
G: With some really cold evenings this last week – we have actually left Orwell in his Dogrobe overnight He doesn’t normally wear a jumper/fleece or the like, and when it’s super cold we do need to leave a radiator on for him so he doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night freezing. The Dogrobe is a perfect bedtime accessory!
