Everybody knows that The Queen is a dog-lover; The Corgis of Buckingham Palace are, perhaps, the most famous pooches in all the land. But what has been less well known – until now – is that Her Majesty is also a keen dog-sitter and is even considering adopting two pups.
The story emerged this weekend that she’s been lending a helping hand by taking a Corgi and a Bichon Frise for walkies to help out an old friend and royal gamekeeper Bill Fenwick. Apparently, Bill’s late wife, Nancy, was known as Keeper of the Corgis, a title she earned by helping the Queen out with some dog-training, and even looked after the Corgis when the Queen was abroad for official royal visits. Even the Queen needs a dog sitter from time to time!
Now, the Queen is repaying the favour by looking after Nancy and Bill’s dogs, a job she’s gladly taken on every Sunday afternoon since Bill Fenwick became ill. After Bill sadly passed away last week, Her Majesty is even considering adopting the dogs if no-one in the family is able to care for them.
During her lifetime, Queen Liz has had more than 30 Pembrokeshire Welsh Corgis, she even had 13 all running around the Palace at the same time. She recently announced that she would no longer breed any more dogs as she was worried about puppies being too much of a handful and a tripping risk for her and the Duke of Edinburgh.
For the extra hours of dog-sitting and walking you’ve put in, we salute you, Queen Liz!
