The London summer seems to have arrived (fingers crossed!). If you’re a cycling enthusiast, dog-loving Londoner in search of a hang-out spot this week, look no further.
Here’s our list of cafes, pubs and bars to catch the final stages of the Tour de France and take your pup along, too. Allez, Allez, Allez!
1. The Kings Arms, Waterloo
A stone’s throw from Waterloo station, this pub has oodles of charm and a decent selection of craft beers and real ales. If you’re feeling peckish, they have a Thai food menu during the week, and roasts on Sundays. For fans of cycling, there are sports screenings, too. Grab a beer and your pup and cheer on your favourite!
2. Look Mum No Hands, Southbank
Queen’s Walk, Southbank Centre, SE1 8XX
Everyone loves Southbank. The LMNH pop-up spot is an all day long haven for dogs and their owners to kick back, enjoy a coffee, craft beer, food and of course… watch the Tour on their big screens.
3. Look Mum No Hands, Brixton
LMNH’s partnership with Brixton Cycles brings their combination of cycle-workshop, good coffee, tempting cakes, and thirst-quenching craft beer to Brixton. Swing by to catch the Tour screenings this week. And yes, they welcome dogs with open arms.
4. Look Mum No Hands, Old Street
(Notice a theme emerging?) The Look Mum No Hands original location, it’s become a bastion of the London cycling scene. Complete with workshop, cycle clothing mini-shop and cafe, it’s a popular stop for laptop workers and weekend ride pit-stoppers alike. Craft beer, coffee, cakes, breakfast and toasted sandwiches are all on offer. They love dogs, and they’ll be showing the Tour on their big screen.
5. Pearson performance cycles, East Sheen
232 Upper Richmond Road West, SW14 8AG
High-end performance bikes, parts, clothing and the all-important coffee machine. There are only a few seats inside, so a good spot if you’re in the neighbourhood and fancy a coffee.
6. The Wandle, Earlsfield
332 Garratt Lane, SW18 4EJ
Boasting cosy armchairs, a beer garden and a menu of sharing platters, steaks and plenty of wine, this is a good spot. Loved by thirsty, hungry sports fans, they show major sporting events, including TDF. Plus, they love dogs, which means Fido can join you as you shout “Allez, Allez” at the telly.
7. Cycle PS, Camberwell
41 Camberwell Church St, SE5 8TR
Camberwell bar, cafe, cycle workshop has a few light bites on the menu. They’re self-declared dog lovers and will happily pop the cycling on the screens for you if it isn’t on already!
8. The Sporting Page, Chelsea
6 Camera Place, SW10 0BH
Pub classics like pies and burgers on the menu, cask ales on hand pumps and wines a-plenty, this dog loving Chelsea pub is true to its name and screens plenty of sport, including the Tour de France. C’mon, Froome!
9. The Rusty Bike Pub, Mile End
Rusty Bike Pub is about a minute’s walk from Mile End Underground station, and also a short distance from Mile End park and Regent’s Canal – popular routes for East End dog walkers. Boasting some yummy looking Thai food, they’ve got screens and if the cycling isn’t already on when you turn up, they’ll happily switch it on for you. Bring your dog in with you!
10. The Island, Kensal Rise
Tucked away on a Kensal Rise backstreet, this pub boasts outdoor dining and plenty of space in the bar to sit and eat with your dog (dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant). They are showing the closing stages of the Tour from Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th July this week, too.
