Every year the Puppy Bowl is hosted by Animal Planet, an American TV channel, to coincide with the ever popular American sporting tradition – The Super Bowl.
The Puppy Bowl, as the name might suggest, is played between two teams of puppies. It’s not just ‘ruff’ and tumbles for fun – the puppy players are all dogs who are up for adoption. We recently shared some super adorable pictures of the start players. It’s one big promotional event to help build awareness for puppy rescue centres around the United States.
As Puppy Bowl XIII prepares to air on February 5th we thought we’d take a look back at some of our favourite moments from the biggest games in Puppy Bowl history.
Are you ready?
There’s plenty of all-American hype including lights, smoke machines, and over-excited (and pun-happy) commentators.
The pups are split into two teams- Team Ruff vs Team Fluff. We’re not too sure there are actually any rules, but would we do know is that it looks like A LOT of fun.
The teams compete for points by scoring touchdowns and field goals. This is a ‘touchdown’…
And apparently this is a field goal…
The rules appear to be made up as they go. Maybe it’s because the referee can’t stop cuddling the players. How unprofessional.
Awww, puppy cuddles!
Safety comes first. All the puppies are checked over by a vet before being let loose on the pitch.
These tough guys showed you how a scrum is really done
Sally, a Bassett-Doxie mix, threw this impressive duck pass (literally – it’s a duck toy!)
It’s mostly chaos of course
There are occasional moments that resemble ‘sport’
The Puppy Bowl even has a kiss cam. Check out these two lovebirds!
The pressure got too much for little Posy.
Even puppy football isn’t free from crowd interruptions – a streaker found his way on to the pitch!
And of course, there’s plenty of showing off from the players, like these guys who are sending kisses to their fans back home.
Not only does Puppy bowl raise awareness of dogs in need of forever homes but viewers are also able to apply to adopt one (or more!) of the pups taking part in the games.
