Here’s the run-down of dog related news, tips or anything else of interest we have come across in the last week or so.
1. Pet shop stops selling dogs and cats.
A pet shop chain in Spain called Mister Guau, has stopped selling dogs and cats. This has been viewed as a fantastic step forward by many dog and cat welfare activists, although there are still some animal rights campaigners who are (understandably) unhappy about the other animals that remain on sale. The shop is now helping rehome rescue dogs with adoption centres in their shops instead. You can read our whole article here (in Spanish). 2. There is now a filter for your phone that will turn your pooch into Doug the dog from Up.
The title says it all really. We struggled to make Snapchat do what we wanted but as you can see, others have had *much* better luck. You can get some more in-depth instructions on how to use the relevant Snapchat filter on the Mashable site here. If you succeed, share the results with us by tagging us, @DogBuddyCo on Instagram.
3. Fetch, the pet shop from Ocado, launched it’s Petnology section and lets you vote on the next pet tech.
The video above explains the gist of it – but in essence, there are three products being pitched for production and Fetch is asking the public to vote on which of them should go through.
The first is WhatsYapp (clever), and it promises to help you decipher what your dog is trying to tell you with messages direct to your mobile phone.
The next one is CatQuest (snore!). We’re obviously not all about the cat world, so this gizmo claims to keep your feline entertained with moving projected targets to chase all around your room – and no doubt shred your upholstery in the process.
The last product is PetPounds. It consists of two parts, one small device worn by your dog and another worn by your child. Your child effectively accumulates points for spending time engaging and playing with the dog. In this way you can reward your child for playing with your pooch. Two birds, one stone.
4. Most car safety harnesses for dogs fail crash tests
The video above tells a worrying tale. The Center for Pet Safety in the USA tests these products to assess whether or not they will actually offer safety benefits. As you can see, many of these products failed completely, with some shattering completely. Poor quality safety restraints not only put your pooch in danger, but every other passenger in the vehicle too. Read the full article here.
5. Sausage dogs, Wiener dogs, Doxies, Dachshunds, whatever you choose to call these adorable pooches – new evidence shows their dangerous side.
Thinly veiled by their irresistibility, it’s their mission to take over the world. Don’t believe us? Check this out!
