Heart-wrenching stories of abandoned and abused dogs are a daily occurrence on the internet. While it’s important that these stories get a lot of attention in order to raise awareness about dog abandonment and help shelters, they can also remind you that the world can be a terrible place for our canine companions.
We often don’t hear about the lucky few that have been given a second chance in life. After all, adopted dogs make such loving companions too, as these stories will show you…
1. Jasper
Senior dog Jasper didn’t have a good reason to smile before being adopted at the age of ten. Often the hardest to rehome, senior dogs need love too!
2. Maltese Mix
This exhausted Maltese mix is on her way to recovery after finally being taken out of her shelter cage and into a warm bed! Have a great life, little one.
3. From starving Dominican street pups to loving lap dogs
These two unwanted dogs were starving on the streets in The Dominican Republic… until they were taken in by a loving person. You can hardly recognise them now!
4. Lucy
Collie mix Lucy looked awfully sad at the shelter. Look at her now after just a few months of being in her forever home!
5. Pillow the Pittie
Look at that BIG Pit Bull smile! All Pillow (what a great name) needed was some love and ear scratches to smile again.
6. Koda
The people who adopted Koda found out that he had Parvovirus and probably wouldn’t survive. After intense veterinary care, he’s running around and happy. Brave boy, Koda!
7. Brego
Handsome German Shepherd Brego was rescued from what his new owners could only describe as “hell”. Looks like he’s enjoying heaven on Earth now!
8. Gia
Gia was found in a car park when she was still a puppy. Who knew she would become so beautiful? We’re sure she’s very grateful, despite the bad manners!
9. Jackson
Jackson was just desperate to stretch out on a doggy sofa! After a long stay at the shelter, nothing beats the comfort of a warm home.
10. Pup survives car accident
This poor little fella was hit by a car and left for dead on the side of a road. He pulled through with good care and is on his way to meet his new family. Congratulations, little pup!
We want to say a huge ‘thank-you’ to all the kind, generous people who adopt and re-home unwanted dogs.
