This week’s Scoop of dog news includes a dog called Poppy who’s a clever girl, and a love story that will make you believe want to text your best friend or significant other – go on, share the love!
Hero dog saves baby puppy
If your dog is anything like Poppy, then you’ll know that dogs love snooping around piles of rubbish – all those smells! But this clever dog wasn’t just enjoying the nasal delights of a rubbish heap. Poppy had sniffed out an abandoned puppy who had tragically been abandoned in a rubbish tip in Dublin and refused to return to her owner until they had come to take a look.
Poppy has doubtless saved the life of this little 10-day-old-pup, who’s been named Autumn and has been taken by Poppy and her owner to a rescue centre in Dublin. We can’t quite wrap our heads around why anyone would abandon this little bundle of adorableness, but we are relieved to hear she’s going to get some brilliant foster care soon.
Summer loving happened so fast, met a dog cute as can be
It’s not just ultra marathon runners who fall in love with stray dogs. A soft-hearted mother and daughter duo, Audrey and Olivia, said that their hearts broke when they met an undernourished pup who look a liking to them while they holidayed in Greece. The hotel where they were staying doesn’t allow dogs, but that didn’t stop them, before taking the stray doggy to a shelter. Audrey was surprised to learn that it is possible to adopt a dog from abroad, which was a no-brainer for the girls. Melitsa, the Grecian pooch, is now enjoying her forever home and has already found a four-legged friend in the girl’s other dog, Lola. Oh, the mischief they’ve already got planned!
Surf’s up, dude!
We’ve all seen funny (and let’s face it, seriously impressive) GIFs of dogs on surfboards. But one animal welfare campaigner has taken things to a whole new level with the first ever mobile wave machine for dogs. That’s right… talented pooches of America are being auditioned to be the surfing dude to help stop the cruel euthanasia of over 80,000 pets – many of them dogs – in the USA every week. Lucky and talented pooches in NYC and Oakland, California will get to try their surf skills out for a chance to surf the official Lucy Pet Float at a large parade in California next year. Good luck, dudes!
