From the Super Bowl to Valentine’s Day, here’s our round-up of doggie news and events from the past week.
The Week in Dogs
1. UberPUPPY – Puppies Delivered
The idea alone may have you divided. Is it adorable? Distasteful? Commendable?
On one hand, shuttling puppies around a US city for the pleasure and amusement of humans sounds inhumane. On the other hand, Uber has partnered with Animal Planet as well as a number of local animal welfare and rescue organisations to ensure that these puppies are well cared for and aren’t simply used as a commodity.
Furthermore, many of the puppies participating are shelter pups looking for their forever homes. According to Uber, their last Puppy Bowl event helped secure new homes for 70 of the dogs involved.
2. Dogs Trust Launches Pop-Up Restaurant
For a VERY limited time only, Dogs Trust – the UK’s largest dog welfare charity – is opening the doors to a café called MicroChippy (geddit?). It’ll only be open on this Valentine’s weekend and all the time slots have already been sold out!
With any luck, it’s popularity will encourage Dogs Trust to make it a more permanent affair. Well behaved dogs of all sizes will be welcome, and their human companions will be able to enjoy a hot dog and glass of champagne courtesy of Bubbledogs.
One of the purposes of the event is to educate people about microchipping and the changes to microchipping legislation coming into effect this April. For further information, you can hear all about it from the dog’s mouth here.
3. Heinz Won The Super Bowl
Big money companies famously spend millions of dollars advertising during the Super Bowl. The grand reveal of these ads is as much a part of the whole event as the half time show.
Now, don’t ask us who won the actual match (or is it a game?), what we do know is that Heinz spent their millions crafting an absolutely adorable TV ad featuring a pack of Weiner pups, in hot dog costumes, charging towards their humans (who also happened to be in costume – dressed as Heinz condiments, of course).
Give it a watch here…
4. There’s a Valentine’s Giveaway Going On Under Your Nose
It would be remiss of us if we didn’t tell you that DogBuddy is currently running a Valentine’s Giveaway.
We’ve teamed up with some fantastic partners including Bloom & Wild, Treatwell (formerly Wahanda) and LastMinute.com to help add a little romance to your life.
Not only that, but every winner will also receive a DogBuddy Gift Card and super-cute dog shaped chocolates!
Y’know, sometimes a dog-free date night is in order, so that’s when your dog sitter can let you enjoy a little me-time. Using a vetted Dogbuddy sitter you’ll be safe in the knowledge that your beloved pooch is well cared for.
The giveaways end just before midnight on the 14th of February enter here to get cracking. Good luck!
