It’s tough work being a parent. As much as you love them, it can often feel like your darling little angels are here to test you. Feeding time’s a massive ordeal, bathing time is explosive, and don’t even us get started on the earlier-than-early mornings.
Many people find it hard work bringing up just one little one, so imagine the trials and tribulations mother dogs have with their litters of anything between (the average number of) three to eight pups.
On behalf of all the mothers our there (dog, human or otherwise), we’ve rounded up seven mothers who we think deserve an award.
1. This mother dog gave birth to a phenomenal fifteen puppies!
Irish Setter Romy doubled the amount of a traditional Red Setter litter with her five boys and ten girls!
2. Dogsitting.
This cutie isn’t fussed about whether her brood is dog or cat, she’s a mama to all creatures great and small. Maybe they should start charging her for catsitting duties!
3. Mother dog saved from highway in Bosnia
Once she was noticed running loose on a highway, this devoted bitch lead her rescuers to her litter of puppies. Seen darting in and out of oncoming traffic, Mimosa took a treat from one of the rescuers – leading them for almost a mile to her ravenous puppies.
4. Buttons the Dalmatian
With the average Dalmatian litter at eight or nine puppies, this super-tired mother gave birth to sixteen pups. We know it’s not quite 101 Dalmatians, but it’s more than enough!

5. Mother dog digs hole to give birth under grave
Having nowhere to go and wanting to get out of the cold, this mother dog crawled under a gravestone to give birth to, and shelter her litter. Many people wrongfully thought the dog was mourning an owner, however, upon further inspection, the dog became a mama!

6. Mother dog saves baby in forest
Kenyan residents believe the baby was found by a dog and carried in a plastic bag to join her puppy. The baby was discovered by two young boys near their house, and the loving mother dog had covered the baby, named Angel by nurses, with a cloth and plastic bag.

7. Mother dog saves puppies from raging fire
The mother dog in Chile, became a social media sensation when she was seen carrying her five 10 day-old puppies onto a fire truck from her burning home.
