Why should children have all the fun and treats at this time of year? Dogs are just important in our opinion. That’s why we’ve created a special spooky treat just for our canine companions.
The method is super easy and uses the basis of our wheat-free dog treat recipe, with some additional ingredients.
Cinnamon helps regulate blood sugar, which is perfect for diabetic dogs and banana adds sweetness, minus the sugar.
Peanut Butter, Banana and Cinnamon Hallowe’en Dog Treat Recipe
Ingredients:
Makes 15 ghost cookies
- 375g wheat-free and gluten-free flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 40ml warm water
- 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter
- 1 egg
- 1 ripe banana, mashed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 160˚C (or 320˚F).
2. Put all ingredients into a mixing bowl apart from the water. Stir with a wooden spoon until completely mixed.
3. Add the water and continue to stir until a dough forms.
4. Knead the dough with your hands for 3 minutes.
5. Dust your clean worktop with the flour and roll out the dough until 1/2 inch thick.
6. Cut into shapes (we used a ghost cutter from Waitrose).
7. Place on a non-stick baking tray in the centre of the oven for 30 minutes.
8. Let your cookies cool down completely before giving to your pooch or if you decide to decorate them (instructions below).
Expert tip: dust your baking sheet with flour to stop the dough from sticking
Optional decorative icing
Ingredients:
- 3 tbsp icing sugar
- a few drops of water
Method:
1. Place the icing sugar and add a drop of water a time until you reach piping consistency.
2. Cut a tiny hole on the end of a disposable piping bag (ours is from Waitrose), fill the bag with icing mixture and pipe on eyes and a screaming mouth.
Please remember: icing sugar should be piped very sparingly (if any is used).
These are treats and should be given in moderation as part of a healthy, balanced diet.
