Gable is a very, very clever Border Collie, knows as many different words as a two-year-old human child. This BBC documentary preview gives a quick snapshot of how clever this dog really is.
His mum, Sally starting training him as a puppy, which is when she realised that Gabe’s recall was better than most dogs. She decide to gradually making the commands a bit more complicated and adding new commands to his repertoire. In the
Dr Emile van der Zee of Lincoln University said “Gable is quite unique, there are only four to five other dogs in the whole world that know so many words. My guess would be that dogs, in general, understand up to ten words, but I’m sure that if you try at home that it is possible to train your dog to know more.”
Amazingly, Gabe can also distinguish between new and old objects, so that when he’s told to go and find Chris Packham, he knows exactly which toy to pick, even though he’s never seen it before!
