In the Scoop this week, Donald Trump gets the chew toy treatment, UK dogs get their own slice of high street fashion and there’s no more sitting on the fence for these pups. Read our treat size rundown of dog news from across the globe.
Trump is going to the dogs
A US pet store in New York City (appropriately dubbed Pet Central) was caught by surprise when chew toy sales spiked this week. Can you guess the chew toy that’s responsible for all this hype? None other than a $20, 17” stuffed replica of Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump.
The Trump dog toy has the GOP candidate dressed in a blue suit, complete with socks emblazoned with dollar symbols, his pocket stuffed with ‘an idiot’s guide to wall building’ and a button on his back that reportedly inflates his head. Party politics aside, Hilary Clinton is also given the stuffed toy treatment, with a similar button her back labelled ‘smile on/off’. We couldn’t possibly comment.
(This reminds us of the news back in July when the smear campaigns started in earnest and got poolitical – check it out here.)
Overall, we’re not quite sure if this is good news or not – is it an endorsement of a presidential candidate, or should Trump be insulted he’s found runaway popularity as a doggy toy? We’ll chew that one over…
So. Fetch.
We were certainly excited to hear the news this week that high street fashion store River Island has added a line of dog clothing. Pieces include classic autumnal warmers such as cable knit jumpers and bomber jackets.
Also in the range are items like dog collars and fashionable favourites like slogan t-shirts. All the items will be stocked in small, medium and large sizes, so pups from Pugs to Labradors should be able to sport matching outfits. The range should be hitting the rails within the next few weeks, so get your shopping bags ready. (The collection is already available online – if you simply can’t wait!)
After all, when you’re doing a spot of weekend shopping, why should your pooch miss out? And doesn’t this Pug look so fetch in his little outfits!
Here’s looking at you, pup
It wouldn’t be The Scoop without at least one adorable story to make us fall in love with the whole race of dogs all over again. And this week is no different. Sometimes all your dog wants is to be able to gaze longingly through a fence-window at the puppy next door. We take off our proverbial caps to the Dodo for bringing this story to our attention. A chap called Ryan noticed that his dogs were exceedingly curious about the dog on the other side of the fence, often spending the best part of each morning playing chase and peering through cracks.
Now, a dog has to learn that a fence is a fence and it’s there for their own safety and so they can run around in their patch to their hearts’ content. But Ryan had a bright idea to help the neighbouring pups get to know each other better – he installed a small window in the fence. Apparently, he’s not the first to have this exact same brainwave. Adorbs!
