Welcome to The Scoop – our once weekly update of everything you need to know from the dog-iverse. The headlines making tails wag this week: Bridie goes from malnourished to totally gorgeous, we ask if you fancy picking up poo, a pair of pooches go from down and out to pampered and rehomed and we show why cat toys are for cats, not dogs.
Bridie’s a big star now
’Tis the season for Christmas adverts; we’ve already seen the big retailers (we’re looking at you, John Lewis) roll their ad offerings out into the world like a Great British Bake-off cake unto the judges for inspection and critique.
Well, here’s one advert you can’t find fault with. Not only does it feature an absolutely beautiful dog, she’s got a gorgeous chestnut-red coat and she’s a real-life, bona fide rescue pooch. Yes, there’s only one RSPCA and on behalf of all dogkind we’re so grateful for all the work they do. This includes rescuing dogs from really dire straits; when Bridie was rescued she was malnourished having endured truly horrific conditions. Bridie has been given a new lease of life after lots of TCL. The RSPCA specialise in helping to rehabilitate dogs so that they can once again experience some measure of the joy that they bring to our lives.
Bridie is one of thousands of dogs who has found love through the simply incredible work of the RSPCA this year. Want to help us help the RSCPA rescue and rehome more dogs like Bridie? For every DogBuddy booking you make this winter we’ll donate £1 to the RSPCA. Alternatively, make a once off seasonal donation and find out more on our dedicated RSPCA charity page.
Would you rather… pick up a poo or Piqapoo?
Imagine never having to stoop your nose closer the ground covered in steamy poop or never having to risk getting doggy do-dos near your hands ever again. Let’s face it dogs – we love you to high heaven and back, but if we’re honest we just don’t love poo.
That’s the golden idea behind Piqapoo – a new product that’s somewhere between a nappy and a self-filling binbag. At the time of publication, their Kickstarterr had raised 278% of the campaign target, and had achieved it more than 25 days before deadline. Talk about impressive.
Would you use Piqapoo? Does it embody the pure laziness of our modern age? Or is it the most genius invention you ever did sniff? Let us know in the comments below!
Merseyside makeover
Did you see the news about the guy who decided to give homeless men haircuts? It’s amazing the difference a good barber can make to a man’s appearance, a fact that many dog mums can vouch for. Well, two lucky pooches from Liverpool were recently pampered and preened from dog-eared to dog-show. Daisy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Gandalf the Shih Tzu, who’s only 6 months old, were both rescued from the streets of Liverpool. the two dogs were, as you can imagine, smelly with matted coats and their claws were in dire need of some attention.
The story takes a turn for the bath-er, though. Given a good, well deserved shampoo, scrub and haircut, the two dogs have now been rehomed. According to the groomer the pampering session didn’t just leave the pair of pooches looking like different dogs, they behaved like it, too, offering plenty of tail wags and kisses (aka licks) for everyone in the shop.
Dogs just can’t deal with cat toys
If you’re a dog and cat parent, this probably isn’t news to you. As cute as they are, dogs struggle to make heads nor tails of the three cat toys they’re presented with. This video will have you chuckling, giggling, and saying ‘awww’.
