This week we bring you the freshest doggy world updates, direct from our news desk. Hot off the press – dogs are the new elephants, paw-litics has never been so furry, and meet the doxie who has an unusual trick up his sleeve… it must be The Scoop!
Forget elephants, dogs have incredible memories
An ongoing scientific study into the intelligence of dogs has revealed that they have episodic memories. What does this mean? For one thing, it proves that dogs are seriously clever creatures. Apart from confirming what every dog parent has known all along, this is significant because it proves that dogs can remember things that have happened in relation to time and space.
The dog in the video watches as his owner touches an umbrella, and is then lead away from the umbrella so that the dog can’t see it any more. Then, a minute later the dog is lead back to the mat and lays down. Claudia Fugazza, the author of the report, says this is because the dogs expect to be given a command. However, when the dogs’ owners gave the command “do it” – the dogs immediately mimicked the tapping of the umbrella. In fact, almost 60% of the dogs were able to perform the same action as their owners.
According to the report, this is significant because a) no importance was given to the original action – the owner tapping the umbrella, b) a whole minute had passed and c) the dogs had never performed that action before.
Perhaps it’s time to introduce a new doggy idiom – ‘dogs never forget’?
News emerged this week that there are some new inhabitants on Downing Street. These new residents are certainly paw-litical. Rumour is they’ve got their paws deep into classified and sensitive government documents, and we suspect they’ve been sniffing around in the back of meetings, too. No, we’re no talking about the PM’s new cabinet members – we’re talking about Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond’s two dogs, Rex, a Welsh Terrier and Oscar, a Wire Haired Dachshund.
We wonder how Rex and Oscar will get on with the feline resident of Number 10 Downing Street, Larry. Perhaps they’ll get on like cat-dog-BFFs?
It’s been quite a month for paw-litcial pooches. Remember that news story that everyone was talking about just after the US general election, when a hiker bumped into Hilary Clinton? Turns out Hilary and Bill were taking a much-needed breath of fresh air after a hard-fought campaign, to walk their dog!
Who can blame the likes of Phil Hammond and the Clintons for wanting time with their dogs? Politics can be a ruff business!
A very well balanced dog
Forget the mannequin challenge, there’s an even more impressive pup in town.
Harlso is a Dachshund with a remarkable ability to balance miscellaneous objects on his head, face and body. We’re not quite sure how his singular set of skills was discovered, but we are certainly more than impressed.
If you don’t believe us, see for yourselves. this paw some doggy is an internet sensation:
Here he is impersonating the new President-Elect of the United States…
This doggy’s self control is amazing! If we had biccies balanced on our heads we’d be munching on them in no time!
